2021 marked the 50th year of Bangladesh since independence. The economic growth for Bangladesh has been remarkable during the last decade- averaging 6.5%- the 3rd fastest in the world. In FY21, Bangladesh remained resiliently in growth trajectory, registering 5.43% GDP growth- a rare feat during the pandemic and significantly higher than most of Asia. Bangladesh has also surpassed its larger neighbour India in terms of per capita GDP and expected remain ahead of over the next five years. Bangladesh’s economy is operating at near-normalcy having endured three waves of Covid-19. The outgoing year bears special significance for the capital market as well. The benchmark index soared to its historical high thanks to a rebound in investors' confidence after many years. Average daily turnover was the second biggest in recent memory, more than double that of the preceding year.
