According to the UN Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking Water (GLAAS) 2014 Report, around 748 million people remain without access to an improved source of drinking water which include household connections, public standpipes, boreholes, protected dug wells, protected springs and rainwater collections. It is estimated that around 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water that is contaminated.
